The Treatment
Treatment for each of the four infections is different, they are as follows:
Chlamydia
A simple course of antibiotics normally clears Chlamydia.
Gonorrhoea
Treatment for Gonorrhoea is usually a simple of course of antibiotics.
If your test is positive for Gonorrhoea you will be asked to attend a sexual health clinic in a hospital where you will have another test to check what antibiotic the infection will respond to.
Syphilis
Treatment for Syphilis is usually a course of antibiotics.
If your test is positive for Syphilis you will be asked to attend a sexual health clinic where you will have another test to check whether the Syphilis is an old or new infection.
HIV
No drugs completely cure the HIV infection however with early diagnosis treatment can keep the HIV virus under control and the immune system healthy. People on HIV treatment can live a long and healthy, active life.
If HIV is diagnosed late, treatment may be less effective and therefore affect quality of life.
